PiNote has different ways of encrypting and / or decrypting the text, accessible from various points of the main menu. All of these modes require you to enter a keyword which is used to encrypt the text. This password is not saved with the encrypted file, so the user must remember the password entered to decrypt the encrypted file.
From the File-> Open encrypted menu you can open a file previously encrypted with PiNote and saved on disk. After choosing the file you will be prompted to enter the encryption password.
From the File-> Save encrypted menu you can save an encrypted copy of the active document. After choosing the file name you will be prompted to enter the encryption password.
From the Edit-> Selected text-> Paste encrypted into new tab menu you can create a new document containing the encrypted text of the selection on the active document. You will be prompted to enter the encryption password.
From the menu Document-> Encrypt current text you can encrypt the entire active document, which will be generated in a new tab. You will be prompted for the password for encryption.
From the menu Document-> Decrypt current text you can decrypt the entire active document, which will be generated in clear text in a new tab. You will be prompted for the password for encryption.
If the password required for decryption is not correct, the clear document produced will not be legible, but the inaccuracy of the password will not be reported.
PiNote performs two-pass encryption, first using the blowfish algorithm and then a base64 encryption. The entered passwords are NOT saved anywhere nor recorded in the memory.
